Transgressive Records’ third year running in Austin, Texas for the world-renowned South By South-West Festival will feature yet another debauched day party, this time held in association with ‘NME’.
Confirmed to appear live and intimately are the following artists:
Plus: Adventures Close To Home DJs, DJ Zane Lowe
Wave/ Wave Rooftop (2 venues). 408 E 6th St., Austin, Texas
Thursday 13th March, 2pm-6pm
Booze will be provided free of charge on a first come, first served basis, and an exclusive SXSW CD sampler from Transgressive will be available to all attendees.
Transgressive’s assault in SXSW first kicked off in a legendary 2006, and performances at day parties to date have ranged from all facets of the label’s roster, inclusive of Foals, Jeremy Warmsley and Young Knives, and DJs including Xfm’s John Kennedy.
The artists performing this year reflect all of Transgressive’s activities – fast-rising, instrument-swapping folk virtuoso Johnny Flynn is Transgressive’s sole management act; impossibly vital glam-art-punk trio The Noisettes are published by Transgressive Publishing; and foreboding, Cave-esque doom merchants Ox.Eagle.Lion.Man. are a brand-new signing to Transgressive Records.
It’s advised to arrive early on the day. Don’t mess with (Transgressive in) Texas.

Transgressive's Noisettes welcome new 'publishing chums', and genius
songsters, Absentee to the fold. The group are signed to Memphis
Industries and have released an album and a half of genius craft via
'Schmotime' and 'Donkey Stock' - go investigate now. Details of new shows
and all-new material is imminent; stay posted.
More Transgressive Records / Publishing signing news is imminent - and
f*@!ing exciting it all is, too... We wouldn't lie.

Yes, you read correctly - Transgressive Management's sole artist Johnny
Flynn, along with his lovely Sussex Wit, has just put pen to paper with
friends of Transgressive, Vertigo Records. His second single - 'Ode To A
Mare Trod Ditch' - is released on June 18th by Young & Lost Club, who also
previously released the debut 45, 'The Epic Tale of Tom & Sue', to great
acclaim ('Dazed', 'Mojo', 'The Guardian', 'The Observer', 'Fact', 'Dummy',
'The Fly', amongst others) earlier this year.
Hip-hip, hurra...

You'll be hearing it any day now on a radio near you... the
stadia-crushing return of Battle, with their awaited single, 'The Longest
Times', taken from their soon-coming, debut full-length LP 'Break The
Banks'. Check the extraordinary, haunting video now on their myspace - http://www.myspace.com/thisisbattle. Format details nearer the time -
further new tunes promised alongside, though, folks...

Jeremy Warmsley is currently buying equipment and putting finishing
arrangement touches to what will be an expansive and very important record
of next year. He commences recording with very, very prestigious company -
to be announced in due course - any day now, and his shortlist of tracks
for the record could be the best we've ever heard...
The Young Knives are gearing up for a long drive up north in the recording
of their long-awaited, 2nd LP... We'll reveal more when the time's right
on this; catch them at Glasto, though - it's gonna be 'sick', and we
promise they'll play a few future hits for you that you've never
previously heard before.
Well, the cat got out of the bag very, very quickly. We can confirm that
Foals' as-yet-untitled, debut LP will be produced in New York in the
coming weeks with none other than producer/TV On The Radio honcho, Dave
Sitek. We're all psyched about this one; classic debut? Definitely; anyone
that attended their/our packed Great Escape Festival party will testify
this. Their second limited-edition single 'Mathletics' - following the
sold-out, bootleg live 12" recorded at Notts Liars Club and scarce
'Hummer' 7" (still available as a download, though, kids...) - is out
across the summer, most likely coinciding with their festival appearances
(which include stints at Reading/Leeds and Underage / Field Day in
Victoria Park... see you there).
The Shins have a new single due out in a couple of months, featuring -
more than very likely - some newly recorded material you've never
owned/heard before... We'll keep you posted. See them also at
Reading/Leeds in August, main stage slots no less... Their stellar
'Wincing The Night Away' is available on CD / download / vinyl in all the
good places; please know this. In the meantime, congratulate singer James
on the birth of his gorgeous new baby!
Go to: http://www.myspace.com/theshins for this.
Mechanical Bride is working on her 2nd EP for us, following the
intoxicating and frankly beautiful 'In The Throes EP'. Lots of special
things planned once more with this timeless artist...
And, finally... We promise. It's happening. Burningpilot have ALMOST
finished the debut album. We've been waiting three years for this moment,
and the initial mixes *totally* make it worthwhile. Dark, chilling,
danceable, compelling; the enigma burns for this elusive and thrilling
combo. We'll keep you in the loop (as much as they'll let us, at least).

It is with great regret that we not only announce the demise of Larrikin Love but, linked
to this, we have been forced to cancel the Transgressive Roadshows which they were due to
headline.
We felt we couldn't bring you the full Transgressive live experience without a headliner,
and were left with no choice but to cancel.
The Brighton date is unaffected, and will go ahead, and we shall reschedule the dates for
later in the year - with more dates and new headliners. Full refunds are available at
point of purchase.
Larrikin Love released "Happy As Annie" on Transgressive Records, and are survived by one
LP "The Freedom Spark"...
They shall be sadly missed.

It's that time of year again! We're venturing out into the wilds of this isle with our
friends from our roster: past, present and future. Please join us for what promise to be
the gigs of the year.
Tickets are available now from www.seetickets.com (type "Transgressive Roadshow"), Diesel

Electroclash, home-recorded versions of classic Young Knives tunes? A lead
vocal that sounds not dissimilar to Steve Hawking? At LAST. The Human
Knives – one of the web’s more surreal discoveries of the last 12 months –

Monday February 26th. This ridiculously rare and limited-edition, reddy
pink 7”-vinyl will feature 4 tracks – including ‘In The Pink’, ‘She’s

This Sunday, for free entry, why not ease off that hangover with three
amazing new acts to discover this year, and some Transgressive deejay
skills?
Johnny Flynn, our recent management addition, is a superlative
singer/musician tour de force, and his backing band The Sussex Wit are the
perfect accompanying ensemble; they'll chill you with their greatness. So
will Bobby Cook, the much-talked-about London troubadour currently
receiving acclaim and support from a lot of radio bigwigs. And Mechanical
Bride, who you hopefully know about already - her sold-out Transgressive
debut, the 'In The Throes' EP, is one of the best things we've ever put
out, quite simply.
So roll along to 'Time Out' venue of the year The Luminaire in Kilburn,
North London, this Sunday at 2pm, and check this lot out. You'll be
grateful you did.

Well, here's a curveball for you.
Following January's co-release with Sire of Regina Spektor's stunning 'Mary Ann...', Transgressive are now teaming up with another iconic American label - Sub Pop, no less - to co-release the compelling, third album from The Shins at the start of 2007.
We're ludicrously over the moon at this proposition, and here're our two geeky, completely enthused heads explaining why:
Toby L: "They have been the most quietly important pop band of the last 10 years subverting the course of classic song structures, timeless melodies and winsome charm to produce consistantly brilliant albums."
Tim Dellow: "We're so exited to be putting out the third, and greatest to date, album from such a unique and special band, and to welcome such an important American act into the Transgressive fold."
So, there you have it. 'Wincing The Night Away', the quartet's incredible third album, will hit UK shores on Monday January 29th, with the marvellous 'Phantom Limb' acting as an advance single the week before on a very special vinyl format.
Stay tuned for more on this release... The band will be hitting UK shores
in the Spring. We'll have more as we get it! More at
http://www.theshins.com and http://www.myspace.com/theshins (where you can
also hear the aforementioned 'Phantom Limb').
Our upcoming Podcast will
feature more on this.

Its out now- a fully revamped Kerfuffle from Ladyfuzz! Newly recorded and produced by Go Team's Gareth Parton, this all-time classic is simply stupendously spiffing!
Verdant coils of harmony will twist and gather about your body, accordions toot at perfect accord, a rich and powerful sound, with the delicacy of a surgeon.
Plus there are two completely new songs- The Heartwrenching Ballad "SNOW CAKE"
(bizarrely titled just days before the hollywood movie of the same name started appearing in adverts all over town)
AND a song for getting ready to paint the city vivid shades of red: "PIRATES"...
Its available now it good record stores, so go buy it now before Santa steals everything to satisfy his peculiar redistributive
notions.
Check out the video here!

Transgressive has recently branched out into the art of cigar-chomping
hard-arsing. Also known as the Management of musical artists.
Our first exponent is the unique Johnny Flynn: a true one-off. Rather than
hype this in our usual round-about way, we'll let you get excited
yourselves. View images and his gig itinerary, and - more importantly -
hear some ace tunes at his myspace.
Talented and beautiful this boy is, and discover it for yourself next week
at the Push Bar in Soho for a headline-set at another fantastic-looking
Young & Lost club-night, or at
the Scala in December when he plays alongside Bat For Lashes.

Yes, it's now a fact. We've signed our first new band in an aeon. FOALS.
Read it. Then read it again. Sweat a little. Then rush on over to their
myspace: (http://www.myspace.com/foals) and have a listen, and do a little
dance. Infectious, rapt, intense - someone wrote on a forum earlier today
that they're like the 'disco Shellac', and we're not going to argue.
Except these are some big tunes in here. Fuller words to follow
soon, in addition to an official release-schedule announcement. We're
thrilled.

The Subways are the final addition to the mammoth TRANSGRESSIVE ROADSHOW
line-up next week.
Joining the likes of The Young Knives, Mystery Jets and Larrikin Love for
special live-sets, plus further shows from the hotly-tipped emergents
Battle, Polytechnic, Jeremy Warmsley and Ladyfuzz, plus recent/brand-new
Transgressive signings Foals and Mechanical Bride, Manchester's Warehouse
Project will be rocked to the sounds of a band who haven't played on UK
terrain for months following doctor's orders for vocalist Billy Lunn to
rest after being diagnosed with nodules on his vocal chords. This will be
a very special one-off and one of the band's last live sets of the year.
The Subways' '1am' not only marked the band's first ever single in the
autumn of 2004, but it was also the legendary, first ever single released
by Transgressive to huge critical acclaim. Limited to just 500 7"-vinyls,
you'll now be lucky to pick up a copy off eBay for under £100.00. The trio
have now sold around a quarter of a million copies worldwide of their
acclaimed debut album 'Young For Eternity', and are currently working on
the long-anticipated follow-up.
Occurring across the weekend of Friday the 17th to the Sunday 19th
November 2006, the TRANSGRESSIVE ROADSHOW is the first in a series of
mammoth-sized, 1,000-capacity-plus warehouse parties that Transgressive
Records is due to stage. More shows regionally will follow into 2007. It
features live and DJ sets from artists old and new to the
ever-multifarious, influential Transgressive Records roster, and a few
surprises beyond - including decks sessions from Simian Mobile Disco,
Statik, MSTRCRFT, and Eat Your Own Ears/Transgressive DJs.
The full line-up for the Manchester leg of the Roadshow dates is as follows:

JEREMY WARMSLEY'S classic 'I Believe In The Way You Move' - approved/supported by 'The Times' and 'NME' and Zane Lowe and Radio 2 and Radio 4, and... it's out today on 2 x beautiful 7"-vinyl format and CD, plus online at all good digital retailers, including iTunes (our Warmo was on the front-page of it, and all). Purchase the deluxe physical formats (which, by the way, contain - across them - four sumptuous new songs…) via the following links:
To celebrate, Jeremy’s got shed-loads of truly awesome activity going on,
summarised best in bullet-point form, we feel. As follows…
-A massive tour across the rest of Sept, October and a lot of November,
too (including shows with Hot Chip and King Creosote, among others);
- In-store appearances in London across this week, the first one occurring
this evening (Monday 25th) at Pure Groove, Holloway Road, London, 6pm, and
the second occurring on Saturday in Bugbear’s new vinyl shop on Parkway,
Camden Town, again early evening. Then, later that night, he plays an all
ages gig at Conway Hall alongside one of our fave new bands, Cajun Dance
Party;
- A competition for fans to send in their favourite short story and have
Jeremy turn it into a song, and release it as a b-side to his next single
in November (! - holy jock-straps, that's a good'un) - check out
his website or his myspace for more
info on that, or, indeed, for further tour date info, etc.
We must also pre-warn you: his incredible record 'The Art of Fiction' is
out on Monday October 9th. It's one of the year's best, and we wouldn't
lie.
