What constitutes a record? I mean, does a little plastic disk have any relevance to the astounding aural cacophony you experience when it’s played? Nope of course not. But as you know, at Transgressive we’ve always been about enhancing the experience of our acts music with amazing packaging. Be it the insane cover of the Ox.Eagle.Lion.Man opus, or even the denim covered 7” we put out for Jeremy Warmsley’s Dirty Blue Jeans, we’ve always been about pushing the boundaries and giving you something really special and collectable to enjoy with our life changing sounds.
And so now, we’re proud to announce the debut release from Esser on Transgressive:
The Headlock T-shirt.
Headlock, an astoundingly fresh slice of good clean fun, that will instantly be one of those songs that you feel you’ve known your entire life, is coming out on a very special EP in the form of the coolest looking t-shirt we’ve seen since Madonna got in that punch up.
The catalogue number is TRANS082, the T-shirts in 3 sizes, and each individual one has a code through which you can download the EP:
1. Headlock
2. Baby It’s A Boring
3. Headlock 12” version
Naturally, it’s limited edition, so move fast....
It’s initially available on the Transgressive Hot Summer Tour, on which Esser is performing, and you can also order it direct here:

That's right! "A Larum" is finally released unto the world on cd, download and stunning pop up vinyl.
4/5 in Mojo, Q, OMM and 8/10 in NME are some pretty good reasons to part with your cash, as well as the fact it contains the singles The Box, Leftovers, Eyeless in Holloway and of course Tickle Me Pink, as well as many of the live favourites he's been touring round the country recently.
The pop up vinyl defies belief as perhaps the most beautiful record ever made. The gatefold opens to reveal a stage on which you can pop out the included characters and play. It also features another story and poems, and of course the album on stunning double vinyl.
Here are some links to pre-order these delights! CD or Vinyl!
We are so proud to welcome (back) Ben Esser into the Transgressive crew. Following his almighty debut single on Merok Records; the fantastic paean to the expressions of love, Esser now makes Transgressive his long term home.
We'll be following up that single with something mighty special, but in the meantime you should check out his myspace and buy tickets to see him on the fantastic Transgressive Hot Summer Tour... You won't be disappointed!
Jeremy Warmsley has been busy... far busier than he lets on from his ace online tv show. Whilst putting the finishing touches to his new album, produced with Markus Dravs (Arcade Fire/Bjork...) he also found the time to record this very special double a-side 7”. The first song, a stunning duet with one of his good friends and collaborators entitled “The Boat Song”, and the latter a cover of New Order’s “Temptation” that thrilled many at last years Reading Festival.
In typical “get ‘em while they’re hot” style, this will only be released on 500 limited 7”s: pre-order now from this site.
Neither of these songs will appear on his new album.
The greatest Trans 7” ever?
Ok, so we thought we could do something really special, to get back to the essence of what makes a Transgressive 7” important... something that personally and directly links you to the artist in a really special manner, and making a unique and individual record...
With this in mind, Young Knives have recorded a very special 7” direct to the Lathe – using NO recording studio at all – simply; through two stereo mikes, and down onto the vinyl – and they sound incredible....
We’ll have links to video footage of this unique piece, (which hasn’t been done commercially since the 70’s) up soon, but in the meantime, you earlybirds can pre-order here.
In the interests of quality and value, you can also buy a 4-track CD EP of “Turn Tail” which has three insanely good new songs and the immense title track.
So, we’ve been scurrying around and made one of our most important signings ever: Liam Finn, is an astounding artist and gloriously unique.
I can gush for hours but you’re probably better off checking out his latest performance on Letterman in the States.
We’ll be releasing his album faster than you can say “oh my god, he’s changed my life in the same way as the Shins did to Darth Vader’s Ma in the Garden State”.... but the first release will be the inspired “Second Chance” on a 500 only 7”, each with a unique photo on the cover taken by Liam himself. We’re even giving away a packet of seeds for all that pre-order it direct from us on our website.
With the lead track taken from his immense album “The Shepherd’s Dog” which is out now on cd and glorious 12”, we are proud to present a UK exclusive 10” EP featuring two new songs. This is strictly limited to 1000 copies, and will also be on itunes.
You can pre-order it direct from us here.
The long awaited follow up to her debut EP “In the Throes”, this new EP contains three stunning new songs on lavishly packaged handmade gatefold 7”s. Simply essential and a true collectors item of the future from this vital artist. 500 only 7”s. Pre-order here.

Transgressive Records’ third year running in Austin, Texas for the world-renowned South By South-West Festival will feature yet another debauched day party, this time held in association with ‘NME’.
Confirmed to appear live and intimately are the following artists:
Plus: Adventures Close To Home DJs, DJ Zane Lowe
Wave/ Wave Rooftop (2 venues). 408 E 6th St., Austin, Texas
Thursday 13th March, 2pm-6pm
Booze will be provided free of charge on a first come, first served basis, and an exclusive SXSW CD sampler from Transgressive will be available to all attendees.
Transgressive’s assault in SXSW first kicked off in a legendary 2006, and performances at day parties to date have ranged from all facets of the label’s roster, inclusive of Foals, Jeremy Warmsley and Young Knives, and DJs including Xfm’s John Kennedy.
The artists performing this year reflect all of Transgressive’s activities – fast-rising, instrument-swapping folk virtuoso Johnny Flynn is Transgressive’s sole management act; impossibly vital glam-art-punk trio The Noisettes are published by Transgressive Publishing; and foreboding, Cave-esque doom merchants Ox.Eagle.Lion.Man. are a brand-new signing to Transgressive Records.
It’s advised to arrive early on the day. Don’t mess with (Transgressive in) Texas.

Transgressive's Noisettes welcome new 'publishing chums', and genius
songsters, Absentee to the fold. The group are signed to Memphis
Industries and have released an album and a half of genius craft via
'Schmotime' and 'Donkey Stock' - go investigate now. Details of new shows
and all-new material is imminent; stay posted.
More Transgressive Records / Publishing signing news is imminent - and
f*@!ing exciting it all is, too... We wouldn't lie.

Yes, you read correctly - Transgressive Management's sole artist Johnny
Flynn, along with his lovely Sussex Wit, has just put pen to paper with
friends of Transgressive, Vertigo Records. His second single - 'Ode To A
Mare Trod Ditch' - is released on June 18th by Young & Lost Club, who also
previously released the debut 45, 'The Epic Tale of Tom & Sue', to great
acclaim ('Dazed', 'Mojo', 'The Guardian', 'The Observer', 'Fact', 'Dummy',
'The Fly', amongst others) earlier this year.
Hip-hip, hurra...

You'll be hearing it any day now on a radio near you... the
stadia-crushing return of Battle, with their awaited single, 'The Longest
Times', taken from their soon-coming, debut full-length LP 'Break The
Banks'. Check the extraordinary, haunting video now on their myspace - http://www.myspace.com/thisisbattle. Format details nearer the time -
further new tunes promised alongside, though, folks...

Jeremy Warmsley is currently buying equipment and putting finishing
arrangement touches to what will be an expansive and very important record
of next year. He commences recording with very, very prestigious company -
to be announced in due course - any day now, and his shortlist of tracks
for the record could be the best we've ever heard...
The Young Knives are gearing up for a long drive up north in the recording
of their long-awaited, 2nd LP... We'll reveal more when the time's right
on this; catch them at Glasto, though - it's gonna be 'sick', and we
promise they'll play a few future hits for you that you've never
previously heard before.
Well, the cat got out of the bag very, very quickly. We can confirm that
Foals' as-yet-untitled, debut LP will be produced in New York in the
coming weeks with none other than producer/TV On The Radio honcho, Dave
Sitek. We're all psyched about this one; classic debut? Definitely; anyone
that attended their/our packed Great Escape Festival party will testify
this. Their second limited-edition single 'Mathletics' - following the
sold-out, bootleg live 12" recorded at Notts Liars Club and scarce
'Hummer' 7" (still available as a download, though, kids...) - is out
across the summer, most likely coinciding with their festival appearances
(which include stints at Reading/Leeds and Underage / Field Day in
Victoria Park... see you there).
The Shins have a new single due out in a couple of months, featuring -
more than very likely - some newly recorded material you've never
owned/heard before... We'll keep you posted. See them also at
Reading/Leeds in August, main stage slots no less... Their stellar
'Wincing The Night Away' is available on CD / download / vinyl in all the
good places; please know this. In the meantime, congratulate singer James
on the birth of his gorgeous new baby!
Go to: http://www.myspace.com/theshins for this.
Mechanical Bride is working on her 2nd EP for us, following the
intoxicating and frankly beautiful 'In The Throes EP'. Lots of special
things planned once more with this timeless artist...
And, finally... We promise. It's happening. Burningpilot have ALMOST
finished the debut album. We've been waiting three years for this moment,
and the initial mixes *totally* make it worthwhile. Dark, chilling,
danceable, compelling; the enigma burns for this elusive and thrilling
combo. We'll keep you in the loop (as much as they'll let us, at least).

It is with great regret that we not only announce the demise of Larrikin Love but, linked
to this, we have been forced to cancel the Transgressive Roadshows which they were due to
headline.
We felt we couldn't bring you the full Transgressive live experience without a headliner,
and were left with no choice but to cancel.
The Brighton date is unaffected, and will go ahead, and we shall reschedule the dates for
later in the year - with more dates and new headliners. Full refunds are available at
point of purchase.
Larrikin Love released "Happy As Annie" on Transgressive Records, and are survived by one
LP "The Freedom Spark"...
They shall be sadly missed.

It's that time of year again! We're venturing out into the wilds of this isle with our
friends from our roster: past, present and future. Please join us for what promise to be
the gigs of the year.

"The Epic Tale of Tom and Sue" contains the songs "Tickle Me Pink" and "Cold Bread", as
well as an Epic Poem tying the release together. It's one of the most magical 7"s ever
created, both musically and artistically and you can buy it when it's released by our
friends at Young And Lost Club Records (we're just Managing the act y'see, not
releasing the records...)
You can pre-order it on the following link, where you can also find a number of

Electroclash, home-recorded versions of classic Young Knives tunes? A lead
vocal that sounds not dissimilar to Steve Hawking? At LAST. The Human
Knives – one of the web’s more surreal discoveries of the last 12 months –
will release the ‘Voices of Buttons & Knobs’ EP thru’ Transgressive on
Monday February 26th. This ridiculously rare and limited-edition, reddy
pink 7”-vinyl will feature 4 tracks – including ‘In The Pink’, ‘She’s
Attracted To’, ‘Loughborough Suicide’ and ‘Tremblings Of Trails’ – and is
limited to just 500 copies. The artwork was drawn by the elusive
mastermind behind The Human Knives himself, and pre-orders for this very
special / bizarre release are being taken via the ‘buy’ page now. Get
ordering; this is sure to fly.

This Sunday, for free entry, why not ease off that hangover with three
amazing new acts to discover this year, and some Transgressive deejay
skills?
Johnny Flynn, our recent management addition, is a superlative
singer/musician tour de force, and his backing band The Sussex Wit are the
perfect accompanying ensemble; they'll chill you with their greatness. So
will Bobby Cook, the much-talked-about London troubadour currently
receiving acclaim and support from a lot of radio bigwigs. And Mechanical
Bride, who you hopefully know about already - her sold-out Transgressive
debut, the 'In The Throes' EP, is one of the best things we've ever put
out, quite simply.
So roll along to 'Time Out' venue of the year The Luminaire in Kilburn,
North London, this Sunday at 2pm, and check this lot out. You'll be
grateful you did.

Yes, the debut Transgressive Shins single will be released on Monday (22nd Jan)...
We're so excited about the release which will be available to download and on the
following extra special formats:
The first is an UBER LIMITED 7" which features Phantom Limb and an individual poloroid
taken by a genuine Shin (band member not body part), and lovingly attached to the
sleeve... The second will be a HUGELY LIMITED 7" which has a double groove b-side,
meaning it randomly plays a different song each time depending on where you drop the
needle... The release contains Phantom Limb, Nothing At All and Split Needles (alternate
version).
Then there's an equally special ENHANCED CD EP which contains all three songs
and the astounding video for Phantom Limb. This will precede the release of their long
awaited third LP "Wincing the Night Away" which you can pre-order from the likes of HMV,
Virgin, Rough Trade and Pure Groove now.

Well, here's a curveball for you.
Following January's co-release with Sire of Regina Spektor's stunning 'Mary Ann...', Transgressive are now teaming up with another iconic American label - Sub Pop, no less - to co-release the compelling, third album from The Shins at the start of 2007.
We're ludicrously over the moon at this proposition, and here're our two geeky, completely enthused heads explaining why:
Toby L: "They have been the most quietly important pop band of the last 10 years subverting the course of classic song structures, timeless melodies and winsome charm to produce consistantly brilliant albums."
Tim Dellow: "We're so exited to be putting out the third, and greatest to date, album from such a unique and special band, and to welcome such an important American act into the Transgressive fold."
So, there you have it. 'Wincing The Night Away', the quartet's incredible third album, will hit UK shores on Monday January 29th, with the marvellous 'Phantom Limb' acting as an advance single the week before on a very special vinyl format.
Stay tuned for more on this release... The band will be hitting UK shores
in the Spring. We'll have more as we get it! More at
http://www.theshins.com and http://www.myspace.com/theshins (where you can
also hear the aforementioned 'Phantom Limb').
Our upcoming Podcast will
feature more on this.
